Operations at the San Pedro Bay ports are experiencing enhanced supply chain efficiency, even amidst the high demand of the holiday season. The latest data for November shows rail-destined container dwell time continues to experience a downward trend since an uptick in October, while truck-destined container dwell times remain low and steady.

Cargo moving through the San Pedro Bay Port Complex via truck spent an average of 3.10 days at port terminals in November, slightly lower than October’s 3.16 days. Rail-destined cargo dwell time fell to 7.67 days, a 22% decrease compared to October. The differences in dwell time from month to month highlight the continuous efforts to increase efficiency, even in the face of extraordinary cargo volumes.

“The substantial improvement of rail-destined cargo and consistently low truck dwell times demonstrate the marine terminals’ commitment to enhancing the fluidity of the nation’s supply chain, especially as the terminals experience increased cargo volumes,” said Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA).
