Container dwell time at the San Pedro ports was down for the month of March, continuing a downward trend for the year. Dwell time for local cargo leaving the terminal by truck averaged 2.5 days in March, down from 2.9 days for February.

Rail-bound cargo dwell time followed the trend. During the month of March, containers moving by rail remained on terminals for an average of 4.1 days in March, down from 5.8 days in February. “Lower container dwell times highlights how efficiently cargo is moving through the marine terminals and they are ready to handle more,” stated Michele Grubbs, Vice President of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA).
