January dwell time data for the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach showed slight improvements in rail-destined containers following a spike in October 2024, while truck-destined container dwell times remained consistently low and steady.

Rail-destined cargo dwell time fell to 6.23 days from 6.53 days in the previous month. Cargo moving through the San Pedro Bay Port Complex via truck spent an average of 3.25 days at port terminals in January, consistent with December’s 3.11 days.

"The monthly improvements to rail cargo operations and the consistently low truck dwell times underscore the marine terminals' commitment to keeping the nation's goods flowing seamlessly through the supply chain," stated Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA).
